Update on Maxine

A while ago, I wrote about Maxine, a beagle who had been adopted from a drug testing lab. When she first arrived home, she was scared and non-responsive, seemingly overwhelmed by all the new stimulation that was bombarding her.

Since then, her progress has been phenomenal. Outdoors, she’s a vibrant, friendly, and fearless pup. Yesterday we took a trip to the Berkeley Marina with her and her sister, Daisy (also a drug lab adoption). Maxine is having a terrific time with her new family.

Fungus is good friends with Daisy and Max, and I suppose he wanted to claim them from Priscilla, the Red Heeler?
Max had her portrait done for one of my recent lines of letterpressed gift tags. Her sad eyes make her the perfect Feel-Better poster dog.

[…] The Beagle Freedom Project works to rescue beagles who have spent their lives in animal testing facilities and placing them with good homes. My friend Daisy and her sister Maxine were both rescued from drug testing labs. Their transformation from scared and timid souls into the rambunctious, loving, energetic (and, yes, at times mischievous!) dogs has been phenomenal. (Read more about Maxine’s story here) […]
