Tsunami Fundraiser Success! Over $8,300 pledged to charity

I want to express a deep and heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this past week’s tsunami benefit fundraiser an incredible success. Thanks to the extremely generous matching donations of two anonymous donors and tinytowntimes.com, plus the incredible $1000 matching donation from San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project, a total of $8,380 has been pledged to Save the Children.
The outpouring of support and generosity has been overwhelming this past week. The fundraiser gained momentum through friends of friends on Facebook, then caught fire on blogs like Apartment Therapy, tablehopper.com, phetched.com, and more.
The biggest lesson I take away from this incredible experience is the power of community. At the beginning of the fundraiser I despaired at the amount I could help by just selling cards and prints, when faced with such a huge tragedy. My friend Laura encouraged me to keep my spirits up and think about what my donation, of any size, could do for just one person who had lost everything.
Throughout the fundraiser a community of concerned citizens formed around this cause. I visualized each sale as a donation to one more person, then one more, then one more. Multiplied by the matching donors the result is incredible and I know that it will make a difference in many people’s lives.
Thank you for your generosity and for your support. You made this possible!
